After a year away from the British Touring Car Championship, 2016 runner-up Sam Tordoff got back behind the wheel of a touring car at Snetterton this week when he tested one of AmD Tuning’s Audi S3 cars.
Tordoff has spent the 2017 season racing in British GTs, where he finished fifth overall, and the Blancpain Endurance Cup, in a Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
The former BMW driver, who competed in the BTCC full-time between 2013 and 2016, stepped in to AmD’s Audi at the Norfolk circuit this week in order to help the team in their efforts to further develop the car.
“We’ve made no secret of the fact that we want to take steps forwards with our BTCC programme,” said Team Principal Shaun Hollamby. “The opportunity to run a race-winning driver in the car is one we couldn’t turn down.
“Although the conditions were far from ideal, it was interesting to get Sam’s feedback on the car and of course we’d be more than open to the possibility of working with him in 2018 if he decided he wanted to make a return to touring cars.”
Tordoff shared the car with one-time BTCC racer Aaron Mason and Volkswagen Racing Cup driver Sam Smelt.
“In terms of Aaron and Sam Smelt, Aaron wanted to sample an NGTC car and I value his technical feedback, whilst Sam is evaluating his options for next year and is a young driver who we feel has a lot of potential if he were to decide to follow the touring car route.”
