Timo Glock planted his Team RMG BMW M4 on pole for race one of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters weekend at Hockenheim after a tight qualifying session.
Scoring his second pole position of the season, he headed a BMW 1-2 after setting a time of 1:30.648 in the 20-minute session, in which the top ten were separated by just 0.308 seconds.
Polesitter Glock was fractionally faster than BMW stablemate Maxime Martin, who was just 0.037 seconds shy of the fastest lap.
After dominating the first two practice sessions of the weekend, Audi Sport completed the second row of the grid with Jamie Green and René Rast third and fourth just over a tenth off the pole time.
Green set the early pace in the session before being pipped by Glock in the final minute, and the Briton is currently under investigation for blocking in the first half of the session.
Mercedes-AMG Motorsport duo Edoardo Mortara and Robert Wickens line up fifth and sixth for race one, with both drivers setting times only two-tenths adrift of Glock.
Mike Rockenfeller had topped both practice sessions, but could only manage seventh fastest, 0.191 seconds off pole.
The 2013 champion sparked a furious response from Edoardo Mortara when the latter believed he was blocked by the Team Phoenix driver as the pair set up for a hot lap.
Rockenfeller is currently under investigation for the incident.
Defending champion Marco Wittman qualified eighth, ahead of Nico Müller, with current points leader Mattias Ekström completing the top ten.
Lucas Auer, the highest-placed Mercedes driver in the standings, lines up fifteenth, with a time 0.440 seconds slower than Glock’s pole lap.
The penultimate race of the season takes place at 14:48 CEST (13:48 BST).
