Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green set the fastest time in second practice for the DTM at Zandvoort in The Netherlands, posting the best lap in the final seconds to usurp fellow Audi racer Loïc Duval.
Green had earlier set the top time at the half-way stage of the half-hour session, initially with a lap of 1 minute 28.409 seconds before the Brit immediately improved with a 1:28.333.
The session then quietened down until the final flurry of times late in the session, when Duval briefly went top before Green improved his lap for a third time.
Green’s time was almost a second and a half faster than the best time put in by Augusto Farfus, who was just 17th quickest in second practice, on Friday.
Duval ended up just over a tenth behind, with erstwhile championship leader René Rast in third, making it an Audi 1-2-3 at the top of the times.
Two-time champion Marco Wittmann was the leading BMW driver in fourth, ahead of Audi’s championship leader Mattias Ekström in fifth, some 0.565 seconds off the pace.
Gary Paffett ended up as the leading Mercedes driver in sixth, ahead of early session pace-setter Mike Rockenfeller in seventh.
Mercedes’ Paul di Resta, Lucas Auer and BMW’s Timo Glock completed the top ten.
14 of the 18 cars in the field were covered by less than a second, making the session slightly more competitive than Friday’s first outing on the newly-resurfaced beachside circuit.
Qualifying for race one takes place at 11:40 CEST (10:40 BST).
