Andrew Jordan led the final reversed-grid British Touring Car Championship race of the day from lights to flag, notching up his third win of the season ahead of Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan and Subaru’s Jason Plato.
From pole position Jordan was relatively unchallenged on his way to the win, finishing ahead of the Mercedes of Morgan in second, who convincingly took second but offered little threat to Jordan for the win.
For Morgan the result marks a much-needed upturn in fortunes as he scored his first podium since Donington Park in April.
Plato completed the podium in third, having got past Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff for the position on lap 13 when the latter tangled with BMW’s Rob Collard whilst battling for the final podium position.
A brief safety car intervention was required after Collard made contact with Goff on the run up to the Brook Chicane on lap 13. Collard’s BMW was pitched into the barriers on the inside of the circuit, breaking its right-rear suspension before spinning back in front of the pack and into the gravel.
Goff got away unscathed aside from the loss of a place to Plato, and he went on to finish the race in fourth.
Subaru’s new championship leader Ash Sutton claimed fifth after getting past title rival Colin Turkington on the same lap, meaning that he leaves Rockingham with a 12-point advantage at the top of the championship table.
Turkington held on to take sixth, ahead of Power Maxed Racing’s Senna Proctor in seventh, who equalled his best-ever BTCC result.
Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram took the chequered flag in eighth after losing out to Proctor on the penultimate lap of the race, although the Toyota driver finished as the best of the less favourable hard-tyre runners.
BTC Norlin Racing duo Chris Smiley and Dave Newsham completed the top ten in what was a strong weekend for the Chevrolet-running squad.
