Harald Proczyk claimed his first TCR Germany pole position since the Sachsenring last year, as the SEAT driver beat Wolf-Power Racing’s Mike Halder to the top time in qualifying at Zandvoort.
Austrian racer Proczyk had been fourth fastest in his Group A draw of the qualifying session, but the SEAT driver pulled out all of the stops in Q2 to beat Halder to the top time by less than a tenth of a second.
“It was a great start yesterday,” said Proczyk, who had also been the pace-setter in Friday’s free practice sessions. “We’ve got pole position, but now we have to make sure that we carry forward the pace from pole position into the race to get a good start.”
Fellow SEAT racer Halder had to settle for second – his best qualifying result of the season – ahead of TCR Germany newcomer Jaap van Lagen, this weekend racing an Audi RS3 for Bas Koeten Racing.
Van Lagen was, however, later excluded from the qualifying results and sent to the back of the grid for both races.
Finnish racer Antti Buri, returning to the series after msising the previous round to test Hyundai’s new TCR car, was fourth fastest, ahead of Honda Sachsen’s Steve Kirsch in fifth.
Engstler Motorsport duo Luca Engstler and Jason Wolfe occupied sixth and seventh respectively as the leading Volkswagen drivers in the field, ahead of runaway championship leader Josh Files in eighth, who was the best of the Target Competition entrants.
Aust Motorsport’s Sandro Kaibach and Prosport Performance’s Sheldon van der Linde completed the top ten, although the latter will have to start the first race from the back of the grid due to an engine change in his Audi.
The reverse-grid second race will see Van der Linde able to assume his front-row starting position, with Kaibach alongside.
Files’ nearest championship challenger, Honda driver Moritz Oestreich, could only manage 28th in a red-flag interrupted Group A qualifying session.
