Josh Files jubliant with second place finish at Oschersleben

ADAC TCR Germany Series points leader Josh Files battled against a broken rear beam on the back of his Honda Civic TCR during the second race at Oschersleben this afternoon, but held onto second place behind winner Niels Langeveld.

The Briton admitted to TouringCars.net post race that he did not have an answer for the Dutchman, who is currently under investigation for incidents he was involved with in the 30-minute race.

“We had a great car yesterday, and I got through to P5, and I don’t know why, but I’ve never done this before, I braked on the grass and went straight on!” admitted the Norwich-based driver about the first race.

Files now extends his lead to 87 points over race one winner Moritz Oestreich, having surged his way from 14th on the grid in race two to finish second.

“We improved the car today and doing lap times that I couldn’t even believe that I managed. He [Langeveld] was just in a league of his own, but it was a great start, got through the pack, people took each other off.

“I had good racing and some good fights. I kissed Luca [Engstler] a few times, but I managed to keep a gap on him.”

Engstler’s team mate Florian Thoma was also involved in contact with Racing One’s Langeveld after the Safety Car period at turn two, and in the process, caught the back end of Files’ Civic, giving the 26-year-old enough concern to go on the radio, stating there was an issue.

“I radio’d in and said ‘Guys, either we’ve got a puncture or broken the rear beam or something.’ Luckily it was the rear beam, but I had oversteer going into right handers.”

With Langeveld and Team ADAC Honda Sachsen’s Steve Kirsch having been summoned to the stewards post race after their incident, there is a chance Files may be promoted to victory when any penalties are handed out.
