Norbert Michelisz has praised his team and fans after the Hungarian star claimed pole position in the TCR International Series at the Hungaroring in front of his home fans.
Michelisz is making his first appearance in the International Series this weekend, and the Hungarian racer has been on form ever since first practice, consistently topping the timesheets.
In qualifying Michelisz continued that pace, taking pole position in Q2 by over half a second from the Volkswagen of Jean-Kartl Vernay.
“It’s an amazing day, and it’s very nice to be on pole at my home track, in front of my fans, and driving for the first time a car of my team…” said Michelisz. “I was quite emotional about it since yesterday.
“It’s being a wonderful experience and I want to thank all the people in the team, I am so proud of them.”
Michelisz, who is running his own team M1RA in TCR this year, believes he could have gone even faster in qualifying.
He also alluded to helping out his team-mates, with Roberto Colciago currently in the thick of the championship battle, just three points behind leader Stefano Comini.
“The car behaved well, although we still have some understeer, but if you make the fastest lap, you can’t complain.
“Tomorrow, in the races, I will try to help Attila [Tassi] and Roberto, if I can, but of course, in a sportive way and without messing around!
“This is my main goal, to help the team scoring points, although I don’t hide that a podium finish in front of my crowd would be great.”
