GE-Force’s Duŝan Borković made it a very interesting front row for the first TCR International Series race at the Salzburgring, as the session saw Opel and Alfa Romeo make headway over the usual guard, as he taking second behind pole sitter Mat’o Homola.
Borković, who was 0.071 seconds behind his former B3 Racing team mate, admitted that he had made a few errors trying showcase the performance of the Giulietta, which has taken two wins this year in Georgia and Bahrain.
“Yesterday, we were trying to change some things on the car to improve the corner speed because we knew we were struggling,” explained the Serbian, who is the leading Alfa Romeo driver in sixth, ahead of team mate Davit Kajaia.
“In Q1 I had some traffic and I made a few mistakes but I was pushing. We are still struggling a little bit in the second sector because of the bad aero, but we will see tomorrow what will happen with all of us.”
Last season, the 32-year-old was unable to complete the race weekend in Austria, after a hefty collision put him out of the running whilst in second place.
He was not completely happy, after putting on fresher tyres for the second part of qualifying, with some errors compromising his best efforts around the 4.241-km track, but it still kept him ahead of the leading SEAT of Craft Bamboo’s Pepe Oriola by just 0.006 seconds.
“By the third lap the tyres were gone. I really like the Salzburgring – I crashed last year when I was P2, so hopefully this year I will finish both races, but you can be sure I will push.”
