Stefano Comini has joked that his weekend in the TCR International Series at Spa-Francorchamps was ‘maybe too good’ after he left with a win and a third place from the two races.
Comini followed up his race one pole and win with third in race two, after staying out of trouble in an incident-packed race.
After following his team-mate Frédéric Vervisch for the first lap, Comini got past the Belgian on lap two and by lap four was in fourth, before passing Delahaye Racing’s Edouard Mondron for the final podium position on lap seven.
Despite the double podiums, the Swiss is still 25 points adrift of championship leader Jean-Karl Vernay, with the Frenchman scoring consistently as Comini moved up the rankings.
“It was a very good weekend for us, maybe even too good,” joked Comini. “I am saying this because we are going to have some heavy success ballast at Monza, my home race, next weekend. But I am not complaining.
“Today, I knew I had to push hard in the first laps to get close to the top, but I got stuck behind my teammate who was making his race. I just killed my tyres trying to pass him and after that the front guys were too far away.
“This said, it has been an excellent weekend for the Audi, Comtoyou Racing and myself, so I am very happy.”
