Norbert Michelisz keeps Honda on top in second practice

Norbert Michelisz kept Honda on top of the times after second practice for the World Touring Car Championship in Morocco, ahead of team-mate Tiago Monteiro and Münnich Motorsport’s Rob Huff.

Michelisz’s time was four tenths faster than team-mate Monteiro had gone in the morning’s first practice session, with the Hungarian putting in the best lap so far in the final minute of the session, despite not having completed any meaningful running in first practice earlier in the day.

Michelisz had earlier rotated top times with Monteiro in the 45-minute session, but ultimately the Portuguese driver had to settle for second quickest, two tenths behind.

Huff was the leading Citroën racer in third, putting in his first laps of the day after having earlier missed first practice due to failing the scrutineering checks. The Brit was three tenths slower than the lead Honda, although he stopped on track at the end of the circuit after apparently running out of fuel.

Polestar duo Néstor Girolami and Nicky Catsburg were fourth and fifth fastest respectively, whilst Campos Racing’s Esteban Guerrieri put in an impressive time late in the session to haul his Chevrolet up to sixth, 1.1 seconds off the pace.

Thed Björk was seventh fastest, whilst Moroccan ace Mehdi Bennani was eighth, with less than five hundredths of a second covering him and the two drivers ahead.

All 15 drivers took to the track in second practice, with Zengő Motorsport’s Dániel Nagy completing the most laps of any driver on 23 tours.

After missing first practice, the second Zengő Honda of Aurélien Panis did take part in second practice, the rookie posting the slowest time of all, some 3.3 seconds off the pace.

Qualifying takes place at 15:15 BST (16:15 CEST) and will last for around an hour.
