Jake Hill ‘quietly confident’ after showing strong practice pace

Jake Hill has admitted to being ‘quietly confident’ for British Touring Car Championship qualifying at Donington Park, after the Team HARD driver went second fastest in Free Practice 2.

Hill was just 0.007 seconds slower than pacesetter Jack Goff in the second practice session, having earlier been third quickest in the first practice session of the day.

As a result, Hill was glowing about his car, with the Volkswagen CC driver being in a buoyant mood ahead of qualifying.

“The car is working better than I could imagine,” said Hill to TouringCars.Net. “It’s the first touring car that does everything that I want it to. I’m absolutely loving driving the VW CC at the minute, and it’s just going to plan.

“I’m quietly confident [for qualifying] but I don’t want to jinx it, because every time I say it’s going to go well it never does. The car feels great and we’re really enjoying it, so let’s just see what happens.”

Hill, who is running without ballast in qualifying, is hungry for his first pole in the BTCC, and believes that he has the pace to challenge for the top spot, having also run with a qualifying set-up late in FP2.

“I want my first pole in British Touring Cars, and I also want my first win. There’s no way that I’m going to be missing out when I’m this close to the top.

“Everyone obviously does a practice qualifying run at the end of FP2 and we were still there – we were still second. I’m only seven thousandths off Goff, so I know I can do it if I really push.

“I just need to be calm and collected and do the best job I can. At the end of the day you can only work with what you’ve got, and this weekend we’ve got a good car, so let’s just see what we can do with it.”
