BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan wants to consolidate his position in the British Touring Car Championship standings at Donington Park this weekend, with the WSR driver aiming for a ‘big points haul’.
Jordan got off to the perfect start in rear-wheel drive machinery at the last round at Brands Hatch, finishing all three races inside the top six before picking up victory in the reversed-grid third race.
Now the Sutton Coldfield racer wants to follow up that success at his home circuit this weekend, as he targets a big points haul to ensure he remains near the front of the championship standings.
“Brands Hatch was an incredible weekend for me and for BMW Pirtek Racing,” said Jordan, who is third overall in the drivers’ championship standings. “To lead a one-two for WSR on my first weekend with the team, do it on my first time racing a rear-wheel-drive touring car, and see BMW at the head of the Manufacturers’ points was very special.
“Now we come to Donington Park, my local circuit, and a fantastic one. The task is to consolidate what we achieved at Brands and aim for a big points haul so we can really show everybody we’re serious contenders for the championship.”
BMW Pirtek Racing Team Principal Dick Bennetts was more cautious, however, warning that the flowing nature of the East Midlands circuit does not typically play to the advantages of the BMW.
In fact, WSR have taken just two victories at the circuit since switching to rear-wheel drive BMW machinery in 2007.
“We must remember that while Brands Hatch plays to the strengths of the BMW, Donington does so to a far lesser degree and has traditionally favoured the front-wheel-drive cars,” added Bennetts. “But we won last year, so it looks like we’ve closed the gap through good engineering.”
Qualifying for Round 4 takes place at 15:40 BST on Saturday, followed by three races on Sunday beginning at 11:40 BST. TouringCars.Net will be providing full in-depth coverage, including a live commentary feed throughout the weekend.
