Rob Huff will tackle the 2017 World Touring Car Championship at the wheel of an ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Citroën C-Elysée, leaving the Honda team after just one season.
Huff previously raced for the German team in 2013, then at the wheel of a SEAT León, after losinmg his works Chevrolet drive when the marque pulled out in 2012.
The partnership yielded two wins that year, before the Brit signed a contract with the works LADA team for 2014, which continued into 2015.
Huff then joined Honda for 2016, but the partnership lasted just one year, with Huff finishing as the third best works’ Honda driver in the championship standings, taking just one win.
“I’m overjoyed to be rejoining my very good friends at Münnich Motorsport for the 2017 WTCC,” said Huff. “Having had a very successful year with the team in 2013, we are excited to come back together in a much stronger position, with more experience and of course with the ultracompetitive Citroën package.
“Obviously when René Münnich approached me with the idea of a Huff-Citroën/Münnich Motorsport attack on the world driver championship for 2017 it was an opportunity that I simply could not pass on. It is a year when it’s quite possible for a private team to be WTCC champions, and that is our number one goal.”
With Citroën having pulled out as a works entry at the end of the 2016 season, Münnich Motorsport seized upon the opportunity to acquire one of their dominant C-Elysée cars to replace the RML-built Chevrolet Cruze which they ran for the past three seasons.
“We are very much looking forward to the new season,” said Team Manager Dominik Greiner. “You can clearly feel the motivation from every single person in the team. With the Citroën C-Elysée TC1 we have the most dominant car of the past three seasons.
“With Rob, we also have a driver with a lot of experience and success in the past. The combination of car, team and driver makes me feel very positive for the new season. It won’t be easy but we will try our best to fight for the world driver title.”
Eurosport Events Head François Ribeiro also took the opportunity to thank René Münnich’s team for their continued loyalty to the WTCC, with 2017 set to mark the outfit’s fifth consecutive campaign.
“If Rob and Münnich Motorsport can make their Citroën go as good as it looks then there’s no doubt they can join a growing list of title contenders during what will be a very open and competitive season,” added Ribeiro.
“We must also recognise René Münnich’s continued support and commitment to the WTCC and the vision he has once again shown.”
