Dušan Borković was left feeling frustrated after the TCR International Series season finale in Macau, with the Serbian saying that the decision to award half points for both races cost him championship positions.
B3 Racing’s Borković was making his first-ever visit to Macau, having failed to see out the season when he was in the World Touring Car Championship two years ago.
The B3 Racing driver put in a strong qualifying performance, putting his SEAT in fifth on the grid for the first of Sunday’s races.
Although the races were shortened affairs, with few laps of real racing in each, Borković kept his nose clean to take fourth in race one and fifth in race two.
The Serbian driver was left disappointed with half points in each race though, as it means he finishes the year seventh overall in the drivers’ championship standings and just two points off finishing in fifth overall, which went to team-mate Mat’o Homola, and just one point behind sixth-placed Gianni Morbidelli.
“I have mixed feelings right now,” admitted Borković. “Only due to the decision to cut the races short and to award half points in both races I am in seventh place in the overall standings and not in fifth.
“I felt that I was very fast in both races but I drove very cautiously. It Is hard knowing that the gap with the drivers in front of me in the overall standings is only one point and two points.
“I am focusing on the next year from this moment. Macau circuit is extremely challenging but I liked it at the same time.”
After a testing year, in which Borković was the only one of the top eight drivers not to score a race win, the Serbian ace remains committed to racing in TCR again in 2017.
“With all the problems and misfortunes from the beginning of the season I think I learned and grew a lot this season. In the Asian rounds I showed my speed and skill.
“I will use this break to make the best decisions considering next season and my career but I am staying in TCR for sure. It is a great championship that is growing rapidly.”
