Audi’s Miguel Molina was able to stamp his authority on race one of the DTM season finale at Hockenheim yesterday afternoon (15th October), seeing him take a well-deserved victory at a third different track, finishing ahead of both Marco Wittmann and Edoardo Mortara.
The Spaniard, who started alongside pole sitter António Félix da Costa, took advantage into the Nordkurve and never looked back, despite having started the weekend on the wrong foot.
“Yesterday and this morning, I was not so happy with the car set-up, which we continually worked on as usual,” said the Team Abt Sportsline driver, who has now won at Nürburgring, Lausitzring and the Baden-Württemberg circuit.
“I had a really good car to drive, which was fast, and I tried to manage a perfect lap, and then in the race the key was the start, when I did a really good one.
“Then I tried to push as much as possible to have a good gap and stay clear of the DRS. As soon as I knew that I had done it, I managed the tyres and kept control.”
Molina, who explained that his future in the DTM is still very much uncertain, but is motivated to get the best results possible for the Ingolstadt brand on the final day of the season.
“I’m really happy to have taken my third win in DTM. I’m also really happy to be one of the drivers to have race here, with still one more race to do tomorrow, to do the maximum.
“My hope is to continue racing here in the DTM, but it’s not in my hands. For me, it’s the best championship in the world, so I would like to continue driving here.”
