A double podium for James Nash at the Sepang International Circuit secured Craft-Bamboo Racing the TCR International Series’ Teams’ Championship at the weekend for the first time.
Having missed out on the title by just 19 points to Target Competition in 2015, Craft-Bamboo Racing came back even stronger in 2016, and the Anglo-Hong-Kong outfit has now taken the title with a round to spare.
Nash finished third in the opening race, before going one better in Race Two, whilst Russian racer Sergey Afanasyev also took two top ten finishes.
Whilst Pepe Oriola took fourth in Race One, the Spaniard was shovelled off the road in the second race, marking the only non-point finish for the team in Malaysia.
“I am proud and humbled by the efforts of all our team, drivers and partners to have secured the Teams’ title with a round to spare,” said CEO Richard Coleman. “A huge reward for the hard work and commitment of everyone in the entire company.
“This weekend worked out very well for James and not so well for Pepe in the drivers’ standings, but Macau is Macau and anything can happen.”
The team will now focus on taking the drivers’ title with Nash in the season finale in Macau. The Brit has a 17-point advantage over Stefano Comini.
Whilst Oriola is mathematically still in with a shout, he has all but ruled himself out after another race two without points at the weekend.
