Team JCT600 with GardX’s Rob Collard also has the right to stake a claim to the 2016 BTCC drivers’ title alongside team mate and current points leader Sam Tordoff, with a fierce battle set to get underway at Brands Hatch this coming weekend.
Even with a 17-point deficit, the multi-year veteran is well on course to beat his best season result of fifth place back in 2012, and has admitted that becoming champion “would be a dream come true.”
“I made my BTCC debut 15 years ago, but this has been my best season by some margin,” explained the 47-year-old, who is fourth in the standings behind the Honda Yuasa duo of defending champion Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal.
“I’ve consciously taken fewer risks this year with the aim of staying in the championship hunt, and WSR have given me a BMW that has worked fantastically in the races, even when I’ve been carrying a lot of ballast weight.”
The Hampshire-based driver knows that the effort it will take to secure a maiden title will be somewhat herculean, along with the seven other drivers that have a chance to take all the glory.
“To win from 17 points behind at the final round won’t be easy, but you never know what can happen in motorsport. It will be crucial for Sam and I to work together as a team to try and make sure we secure all three titles at stake this weekend.”
