After a dominant display in the DTM sprint race at the Nürburgring, current points leader Marco Wittmann dedicated his third win of the season to Team RMG and team principal Stefan Reinhold, with both parties en route to taking their second titles in the series’ history.

The Furze-based driver was able to control the race from the very start, calmly extending his lead over BMW Team RBM’s Tom Blomqvist to over seven seconds at the end of the 29-lap affair.

“That was a mega race. I am absolutely delighted with the win – not only for me, but also for my team, which has won at its home event for the third year in a row,” said Wittmann, as both he and Maxime Martin have won at the Eifel over the last three seasons.

The 26-year-old was one of several drivrs that made very quick getaways when the red lights went out, which he felt was to his advantage to keep Blomqvist at bay and stride comfortably to take his eighth DTM career win.

“I had a good start and tried to avoid making any mistakes. I was pushing flat-out all the time to maintain focus and concentration,” he explained, having spent all

“The guys behind me were involved in a few battles, and I had a comfortable lead. All I had to do then was bring it home.

“This is a special win, especially for my team RMG and team principal Stefan Reinhold. For the guys, the Nürburgring is their home track.”

Wittmann now has 155 points to his credit, with five races remaining, as Team RMG now extend their advantage over Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline to 41 points in the team title race.

Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt had nothing but praise for the current points leader, despite incidents involving Bruno Spengler and Martin Tomczyk, as well as giving credit to both Timo Glock and Maxime Martin taking good points for BMW in fifth and eighth place respectively.

“We were once again treated to ‘Mega Marco’ today. He claimed the home win for BMW Team RMG in dominant fashion, thanks to a top-class performance – and on the 50th appearance of the DTM in the Eifel Mountains. Tom Blomqvist also did a fantastic job.

“He was under pressure for the entire race, and pushed himself to the limit right to the finish.  All in all, however, it was a virtually perfect day for us. We witnessed some fantastic touring car racing. We are now focussed on tomorrow, when there are more important points up for grabs.”
