Jordi Oriola is predicting that the Opel Astra TCR could spring a surprise in this weekend’s TCR International Series races in Singapore, as the Spaniard returns to the series with Kissling Motorsport.
Whilst the younger Oriola has not been since in the series since the fifth round at the Salzburgring, the Astra has not been seen on the international stage since the first round in Bahrain.
Despite the obvious frustrations about constant team and car swapping, Oriola admits that he is excited to be returning to the track in the Opel this weekend, despite having never raced on the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
“I am excited to return to the TCR International Series,” said Oriola. “This is still an atypical season for me, but it’s exciting because I have the opportunity to develop the Astra TCR from the beginning. I will also make my début on the street circuit of Marina Bay and I hope to do it well.”
Although Oriola’s brother Pepe is fighting for the overall title once again, Oriola Jnr insists that he will remain fully focussed on his task with Opel and Kissling Motorsport, and he believes that the car could pull a few surprises in the Formula One-supporting races.
“My brother is fighting for the title of the TCR but my task, however, is to work for Opel and develop the Astra TCR to be competitive in this championship.
“My last participation in the TCR was in Salzburgring, where I managed to get second in the first race, before leaving with a technical problem.
“The victory in the ADAC TCR Series is a good sign that the Astra TCR is ready to give some surprises this weekend in Singapore.”
