Dušan Borković frustrated with Singapore interruptions

B3 Racing’s Dušan Borković was left frustrated after finishing in second position in the second TCR International Series race in Singapore, with the Serbian believing he could have won the race without the safety car periods.

Borković scored his third second-place finish of the season, but the SEAT driver was unable to find a way past WestCoast Racing’s Mikhail Grachev, who went on to win the race.

Only six of the nine laps featured racing, and Borković was unable to pass Grachev at the start of the race. The lack of racing left the Serbian feeling happy but a little frustrated after the racing had finished, with Grachev edging closer to Borković in the drivers’ championship standings as a result.

“I am a little disappointed because of the pace of the race, all the disruptions and time limits,” said Borković. “Maybe I would have had a better opportunity to overtake Grachev if it wasn’t for that.

“Anyhow the Honda is better at the start, the track is narrow and it is hard to pass on it. All in all, it was a good weekend; I collected new points and saved my car for the next round.

“Second is a nice result although I would have preferred to take this first win I am chasing after… But here, at Singapore, I knew that I had little chances against the Honda at the start, and the start is really crucial: staying in front is a great advantage on a street circuit, and even more when it is so hot and on a track where only one line is relatively clean.

“I tried to fight a bit in the initial laps, also because I was seeing my intrinsic pace was at least as fast as Grachev’s, but there was nothing to do and I preferred to secure second and avoid trouble, especially after rubbing against the wall at the restart after the first safety-car.

“I hope I will continue with the same pace in Malaysia in two weeks.”
