Adam Morgan set the pace during the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session of the weekend at Silverstone, with the WIX Racing pilot setting a fastest lap of 1:03.540 around the 1.64 mile National circuit.
The Jackson duo finished in second and third respectively, although it was Ollie, not Mat, who emerged fastest, although the Audi S3 was still nearly a second adrift of Morgan’s Mercedes A-Class over the course of the forty minute session.
The weather conditions also threw up an opportunity for Matt Simpson and Stewart Lines to enjoy some top ten running, amid championship frontrunners such as Tom Ingram, Ashley Sutton, Rob Austin and Matt Neal.
Championship leader Sam Tordoff could only manage 14th, though with team-mate Collard 21st, and close challenger Gordon Shedden in 22nd, it seems fair to suggest the front-runners took the opening session as something of a write-off, in terms of evaluating setup and qualifying pace.
Silverline Subaru BMR Racing duo Colin Turkington and Jason Plato also maintained the trend; the Ulsterman was nearly three seconds adrift of Morgan in 19th, whilst fellow double champion Plato in 30th.
Andrew Jordan rounded out proceedings in the soggy conditions, over ten seconds off the pace after only venturing out for six laps.
Second practice takes place at 12:45 BST.
