Dušan Borković has branded his Buriram qualifying results the ‘worst of the season’ so far, as the B3 Racing driver puts his SEAT in seventh for the first of the TCR International Series races in Thailand.
Despite the fact that seventh was just one place below where the Serbian racer qualified in Russia, and that it is statistically only his ‘third worst’ qualifying result of the season, Borković remained downbeat after qualifying.
The 31-year-old suffered from a broken driveshaft in the first part of qualifying, which limited his running, although further laps turned out to not be needed after he put in the fifth-best time.
“This is my worst qualifying from the beginning of the season,” insisted the SEAT driver. “I was always among the fastest before but it is better than I expected considering the driveshaft issue.
“In Q1 my driveshaft broke shortly after I did my fast lap. I thought that was it, but the team managed to fix it in time for me to start in Q2.
“However, the car was not perfect. I did my best in those conditions, and I thank B3 racing for doing such a great job.”
As Borković continued his mood improved and the Serbian, who is eighth overall in the drivers’ championship standings, admitted that he has a strong chance in race two from fourth on the reverse grid.
“I am pleased with how it went after all. The most important thing for me is to finish both races tomorrow and collect points and experience. I have a good starting position for race two and it will give me a chance to fight for the top.
“The Chang International Circuit is not that demanding, but there is going to be 24 of us on the starting grid tomorrow because we have our Asian colleagues joining us.”
Race one takes place at 12:35 local time on Sunday (06:35 BST, 07:35 CEST).
