Argentine ace Esteban Guerrieri continued to top the times in second practice for the World Touring Car Championship in Argentina, putting his Campos Racing Chevrolet ahead of Citroën’s José María López.
Guerrieri had originally been fastest in the early stages of the session, with a lap time of 1 minute 43.903 seconds putting him top of the times, marginally faster than in first practice.
López himself then took over at the top of the times at just past the half-way stage, with a time five tenths faster, but Guerrieri went out for one final lap before the end of the session and posted a time of 1 minute 43.247 seconds to go quickest, around eight tenths faster than in first practice.
López had to settle for second, making it an Argentine 1-2, with the second Citroën of Yvan Muller in third a further two tenths back.
Tom Chilton was the leading Brit in his Sébastien Loeb Racing Citroën in fourth, ahead of the top Honda of Tiago Monteiro in fifth.
Honda’s Rob Huff was sixth, ahead of ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel in seventh.
In total the top nine drivers were covered by less than a second, and it was also notable that none of the LADAs featured inside the top ten, unlike in first practice.
Whilst Nicky Catsburg was the quickest of the Russian cars in 12th, there were problems for Gabriele Tarquini, who ended up in 13th and finished the session at the side of the track after reporting engine issues. Hugo Valente had earlier returned to the pits to leave the session early after problems with his car.
Neither of the Polestar Cyan Racing Volvos demonstrated much pace, with Robert Dahlgren in 16th, some 2.598 seconds off the pace, ahead of team-mate Thed Björk in 17th.
Dániel Nagy propped up the timesheets in 18th position, failing to post a time due to ongoing work on the engine in his Zengő Motorsport Honda.
Qualifying takes place at 15:00 local time (19:00 BST, 20:00 CEST).
