The final British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Snetterton was red flagged on the opening lap after a dramatic start line accident, which saw Hunter Abbott roll into a trackside TV camera platform.
The accident occurred when BKR’s Mark Howard turned around Dextra Racing’s Alex Martin, with the duo then collected at an unfortunate angle by Power Maxed Racing’s Abbott.
The Chevrolet was sent flying into the air off the left-rear corner of Howard’s car, rolling across the edge of the track before collecting the TV platform, which was sent crashing to the ground.
The race was immediately red-flagged and followed by a lengthy delay, with the race stopped for around 20 minutes.
The cameraman, Phil White, operating the equipment on the platform is reportedly uninjured after the incident.
The accident prevented Howard, Martin, Abbott and Ollie Jackson from taking the restart, with the latter having speared into the barriers at the same time having also been unable to avoid the shunt.
