Dušan Borković has admitted that he is surprised to have taken pole position in qualifying for the TCR International Series at Oschersleben, with the Serbian racer now aiming to put a run of bad races behind him on Sunday.
B3 Racing’s Borković took his second pole position of the season in Germany, beating team-mate Mat’o Homola to the top spot.
Having failed to score in any of the past five races, and in fact having only finished only finished three of the season’s ten races to-date, Borković is hoping to put his reputation of having bad races this year behind him.
“I am very happy with this second pole of the season, especially because I was not expecting it,” said Borković. “This was what I needed. I tend not to like slow tracks and slow corners, so I was not thinking to be on pole here. I didn’t push very hard and maybe that was the key.
“Of course, to have two of our cars on the front row is a great reward for the entire team, who have had a lot of work so far this season.
“Tomorrow, the first laps will be difficult, because it’s hard to warm up the tyres on this track, but I really hope I’ll be able to correct my reputation of ‘qualifying master but race disaster’!
“I hope everything goes good tomorrow. I can’t be pleased with the season so far but I choose to leave bad things behind. I’ve been named qualifying master and race disaster. I am working on changing that.”
Borković currently sits 11th overall in the drivers’ championship standings, moving to within one point of tenth-placed Davit Kajaia after taking another five points for his pole position.
