Tom Ingram continued to set the pace in second practice for the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park, with the Speedworks driver just 0.065 seconds ahead of Honda’s Gordon Shedden.
The ballast-free Ingram followed up his first practice form with a lap of 1:25.858 to go just under two tenths faster than he had in the earlier first practice session, posting the time in the final three minutes of the session.
Shedden ended up in second, having himself been the fastest driver with eight minutes to go until Ingram knocked him off the top.
BKR’s Árón Smith continued to be on the pace, ending up third fastest, 0.155 seconds slower than Ingram’s Toyota. It means that the same three drivers occupied the top three positions in the times, with Smith and Shedden the other way around from the first practice order.
MG’s Josh Cook was fourth fastest, having consistently been inside the top ten throughout the 40-minute session, ahead of WSR’s Jack Goff in fifth, who continued to show pace in his BMW.
Sam Tordoff was just behind his team-mate in sixth, whilst Team BMR’s Jason Plato posted the seventh best time, admitting after the session to be feeling more comfortable in his Subaru Levorg, despite the problems the team are facing with straight-line speed.
Colin Turkington made it two BMR cars in the top ten in eighth, with MG’s Ashley Sutton and Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin completing the top ten.
The session was largely incident-free, with yellow flags appearing around half an hour in when Team BMR’s James Cole went off the track in the second sector, but was able to re-join the track.
Championship leaders continued to struggle for pace, with Honda’s Matt Neal and WSR’s Rob Collard down in 11th and 15th position respectively. Adam Morgan, who is currently third overall in the standings, could only manage 23rd, 1.667 seconds off the pace-setting Toyota.
Qualifying takes place at 15:20 BST.
