Liqui Moly Team Engstler have signed 21-year-old German Niklas Mackshin for the German round of the TCR International Series, which takes place at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben this weekend.
Mackshin will line up in the team’s second Volkswagen Golf GTi racer, alongside regular driver Davit Kajaia.
The young German has previously tasted success in entry-level touring car competition, having won the ADAC Chevrolet Cruze Cup in 2013 and followed it up with the 2014 DMV BMW Challenge title.
Mackshin then competed in the FIA European Touring Car Cup in the Super 1600 class in 2015, winning ten of the 12 races in the category on his way to the title.
Mackshin has continued in the Super 1600 ETCC category in 2016, and continues to lead the standings with an impressive four victories out of six races.
Mackshin is the fourth different driver to race the team’s second Golf, after Mikhail Grachev (who left the team after round six), Jordi Gené (in Italy) and Florian Janits (in Austria).
