Team personnel from Liqui Moly Team Engstler experienced the terror attack in Istanbul recently whilst on their way to the TCR International Series round in Sochi, Russia it has been reported.
Team Manager Kurt Treml received news from team personnel that they had been in Istanbul at the time of the attacks.
Thankfully no-one from the team was directly caught up in the terrorist attack.
“We’re fine; we hear the bombs only,” said the text message to Treml, who was at home in the Allgäu region of southern Germany
Team personnel had planned a stop in Istanbul as part of their journey to Sochi.
“We are very grateful that nothing has happened to us,” said Treml. “To all victims and their families I speak with our deepest sympathy.”
The team will be competing in the TCR touring car championship in Sochi with Davit Kajaia, from Georgia.
For Kajaia it is effectively his home race, with the circuit being just accross the border from his home country.
