Colin Turkington claimed the first ever victory for a Subaru in the British Touring Car Championship as he took the win in Round 10 at Oulton Park ahead of Sam Tordoff and team-mate Jason Plato.
Turkington led the fifteen lap contest from lights to flag and emerged 2.424 seconds clear of the BMW, with Plato some seven seconds further down the road.
Daniel Lloyd, who started the race alongside the double champion on the front row, came home fifth behind Gordon Shedden.
Wheelspin for Lloyd off the start gifted Sam Tordoff second on the first run down towards Old Hall as Turkington made good his escape up at the front. Tom Ingram was another driver to go backwards as the Toyota slipped from fourth to seventh in the first sector alone.
Joint standings leader Rob Collard spun at the Island hairpin three laps into the contest and rejoined at the very rear of the field, by contrast his championship rival Matt Neal led a lonely race to ninth, a result which gives him back the lead of the standings.
The middle part of the race was characterized by the firm overtaking moves of Plato, first dispensing with Lloyd into Island with a tap on the rear of the Honda Civic Type-R before then moving past defending champion Gordon Shedden into Old Hall after a number of laps attempting to outmaneuver the works Honda.
There was one small blemish on an otherwise near-perfect performance by Silverline Subaru BMR Racing as Warren Scott’s Levorg GT slowed on the slow-down lap with a small fire, suspected to be caused by an oil leak, though the team’s engineering staff are currently investigating the issue further.
The second race of the afternoon gets underway at 14:45, with a number of plot points finely posed, not least the first addition of success ballast into the Subaru cars.
