A new regional TCR Series, covering the Central American region, has been officially announced by WSC America, with the series set to run during the winter months between October and March.
TCR promoter Marcello Lotti launched the new series in Santo Dominigo in the Dominican Republic on Thursday last week, with the event being attended by Series Manager Alberto Puig, and a variety of delegates.
Included in the announcement are plans to run as a support race to the Formula One event in Mexico at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
“This was a plan we have worked on for some time, as this region is an important market for car manufacturers and has a long-standing tradition for touring car competitions,” explained Lotti. “Some of the countries that will host the series already have strong national championships.
“As soon as we began negotiating with the local promoters we met with an overwhelming enthusiasm from them, but also from local teams and drivers.”
Lotti added that he hopes there will be additional interest from European-based teams who can take advantage of the off-season to also compete in the new series.
“The fact that the series will be run in what we consider the ‘off season’ in Europe may encourage some of the European teams to take part.”
