Polestar Cyan Racing admit that they are pleased to have the same starting point as their World Touring Car Championship rivals in Marrakech this weekend, with all teams having no prior experience of the circuit.
Having not had any data prior to racing at the first three circuits in France, Slovakia and Hungary, the Polestar Volvo team now head to Morocco with the same experience of the venue as their rivals.
Polestar’s Head of Motorsport Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin believes that this gives the team no significant disadvantage compared to their competitors.
“There is certainly no disadvantage for us this weekend for once having the same task as the other teams to learn a new circuit,” said Schedvin. “We have learned a lot about the car in the past races and we are hoping for a strong weekend for the team.”
Thed Björk, who is currently tied with team-mate Fredrik Ekblom in the championship standings, is looking forward to the event on the now semi-permanent ‘street’ circuit.
“I love street circuits,” said Björk. “We are going to bring the pace that we currently have, with learning so much new things all the time. It feels like we have driven an entire STCC season in just one month.”
Ekblom is equally positive ahead of the first run of the S60 racer on the streets of Africa.
”I am really looking forward to the race in Marrakech this weekend, especially as the circuit is new for everyone this time and not only for us as newcomers to the championship,” added Ekblom. “From what I have seen of the circuit so far, it looks promising.”
Both drivers will be looking to better their best-ever WTCC results and score a first podium for team and driver, having claimed a fourth position apiece in Hungary.
