Dušan Borković has blasted Gianni Morbidelli after a clash between the pair in the second TCR International Series race at Spa-Francorchamps, with the Serbian saying the Italian is ‘driving like a baby’.
B3 Racing’s Borković was defending from Morbidelli heading into Turns 5 and 6 on the opening lap of the race, with the WestCoast Racing driver looking to pass around the outside at the end of the straight.
Borković held his line through the corner and the pair made contact, resulting in the end of both of their races.
Defending his actions, Borković claimed that he was driving more fairly, having earlier tried to pass Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Pepe Oriola on the outside at Eau Rouge. Borković claims that Morbidelli should have exercised the same restraint.
“I didn’t want to be dirty, I didn’t want to try to go through Eau Rouge on the outside, so released a little of course, because Oriola was inside, and I let him go,” said Borković to TouringCars.Net. “Then Morbidelli was overtaking in Turn 4 and I was faster [at the end of the straight].
“Under braking we were close and he was trying to overtake me on the outside. I was inside, so I was going to close my line for sure; the main thing is that I was inside. If he knew that I would go [and hold my line] he could cut the corner, but he was trying to be a hero.
“He could have cut, and then released me, but he wanted from P15 to be P1 at the end of the first lap. He is like a twelve year-old. I have never seen driving like this. He is [nearly] 50 years old and he has 30 years’ experience, but he is driving like a baby.
“It is stupid to try and overtake me around the outside when you know that I will be faster. He could have chased me, to overtake [later on].”
The reigning ETCC champion also sounded a word of warning to Morbidelli for later in the season.
“Tell him to wait for Macau – tell him that he will not get the championship, because in Macau he will be sorry.”
