WestCoast aiming to get TCR title campaign back on track

WestCoast Racing are aiming to get their title campaign in the 2016 TCR International Series back on track in Portugal this weekend, as the series heads to the second round of the current campaign.

Although the team scored a podium in the season opener in Bahrain, a controversial clash between Gianni Morbidelli and Kevin Gleason cost the outfit dear, with an almost certain podium finish lost and a non-score for Gleason.

To make matters worse for the Swedish team, rookie racer Aku Pellinen was also handed a post-race penalty for a jump start in race two.

With three weeks between events, the team have now regrouped and are aiming to get their title push back on track in Estoril this weekend.

“Although it didn’t exactly go to plan last time out in Bahrain, this, as we all know, can be Motorsport,” explained Teram Principal Greger Petersson. “We’ve now learnt our lessons and will be back stronger and quicker in Portugal.

“The TCR International Series is now more competitive, with more cars and more teams involved in the championship this year. But our set-up is strong; we have three top drivers who all looked quick in Round 1 and a car in the form of a ‘Step 2’ Honda Civic – all the ingredients we need to deliver some solid championship points, narrow the gap to the outright leaders and truly get our title challenge underway.”

The team left Bahrain second overall in the teams’ championship, whilst Morbidelli sits fifth in the driver’s championship after a second-place finish in the opening race.
