The tyre choices have been published by TOCA for the opening three rounds of the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Teams and drivers are required to select in which of the three races they will use the ‘soft’ compound tyre, which offers pace advantages but is quicker to wear out, and in which other two races they will use the ‘normal’ compound. This selection is made prior to qualifying on the Saturday afternoon.
Remember that lap times no longer determine the grid formation for the second race, therefore a number of drivers are likely to use the compound in the later races in the absence of needing to run a pseudo-qualifying setup in the first race.
Interestingly, TouringCars.net understands that, if the track temperature remains within the ballpark of 18 degrees celsius today, the soft tyre in theory could be made to last the entire race distance without a massive drop off in performance.
