Amidst damp conditions at Hockenheim for the second day of official Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) testing, BMW Motorsport remain fastest, thanks to the efforts of Team RBM’s Tom Blomqvist.
The Anglo-Swede posted the fastest time of a 1:33.214, ahead of Audi Sport’s Mattias Ekström and Mike Rockenfeller, with the latter posting the fastest time of the morning.
Maximillian Götz was the fastest of the Mercedes drivers around the 4.574-km track, as well as completing the highest amount of laps for the second day in a row, with 139 to his credit.
The former GT driver posted the fourth fastest time of the day, just over fourth tenths slower than Blomqvist.
“It was great to be sitting in the car again after such a long time,” said Götz, who is looking forward to the start of the season in just under a month’s time.
“We all worked really hard. Each of us was on a different programme in order to best prepare for the season. This has been a highly productive test so far and we got through a comprehensive programme.”
The only incident of the day saw Daniel Juncadella hit the pit wall, having initially led the times in the morning session, but was unhurt after the impact. The Spaniard would post the 11th fastest time of the morning, ahead of rookie Esteban Ocon.
Last year’s runner up, Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green, would round out the top five, with Ocon placing just 0,154 seconds behind the Brit.
Edoardo Mortara, António Félix da Costa and Bruno Spengler were split by 0.053 seconds behind the Frenchman.
2014 champion Marco Wittmann would complete the top ten, ahead of Lucas Auer, who was just over 1.1 seconds off the pace set by Blomqvist.
For the next two days, Paul Di Resta, Gary Paffett, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens will concentrate their efforts around Hockenheim, ahead of the first race of the year.
The penultimate day of testing starts at 09.00 local time tomorrow morning.
