Josh Cook hoping to be competitive following FP1 pace

Josh Cook is hopeful that both he and MG Triple Eight Racing can continue their early weekend form at Donington Park and put themselves in contention for a trio of strong results at this weekends Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting.

Cook, who endured a frustrating series opener at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago [2nd-3rd April], clocked a fastest lap time of 1:10.985 to go 0.045 seconds faster than the Halfords Yuasa Racing Type R of defending champion Gordon Shedden after completing a total of 14 laps across the forty minute, twice red-flagged session.

Cook admitted following the session that he wasn’t even aware of his time, and had just been focusing on finding a decent balance in his MG6. He also admitted that the focus for this weekend is to claw back the points deficit lost at Brands Hatch.

“I didn’t even know my time,” admitted Cook.

“We were just trying to find out a decent balance for ourselves. We had a strong weekend at Brands, and had a bit of bad luck really so we want to come here and make sure we claw back as many points as we can really.

“[It was a] good first session, but still a lot to work on. It could be mixed conditions for the rest of the day but we want to make sure we’ve learned as much as possible before qualifying.”

He also praised the performance of the MG6, which Andrew Jordan piloted to a best finish of 2nd around the East Midlands venue last season, but believes there are still improvements for him and Triple Eight to make before they roll out for second practice at 12:50.

“The car feels great. There are still a few things to work on as I’m sure everyone would say. I love this track but that doesn’t mean anything sadly. We’re just going to be knuckling down and getting the best out of me and the car – hoping to be up at the sharp end.”
