Nika Racing has continued its run of absence in the World Touring Car Championship, with the Swedish team confirming it will not be competing in Hungary this weekend.
The team has now missed seven events in a row, citing financial complications relating to sponsors of driver John Bryant-Meisner.
A statement from the team reads:
“We are happy to inform all our fans, sponsors, and suppliers, that we finally are entering the 2016 WTCC events starting with race four in Morocco. The financial issues regarding John’s leading partners are still a work in progress but could well be in place within a short period from now.
“Until then a new solution has been put together with a group of independent private investors who also will act as regular sponsors to John. They will guarantee that John and the team get a solid start of the season and give us the opportunity to develop the team again from a racing perspective rather than focusing on the financial matters only.
“We were aiming for participation already for this weekend, in Hungary but with the shortage of preparation time, we decided to rest also for race three. For John, this will be his début in the WTCC and a TC1 car. [They are] all-new experiences for John, but for the team the long wait to race again with Chevrolet is now finally over.
“Instead of competing at the Hungaroring we will start preparing John and the new car for our entry in this season in Marrakech.
“Thanks again for all the support we have received from the WTCC family during this tough period. Finally, we will start adding more action on the grid, and as soon we gain momentum, and John is getting familiar with the concept we will start chasing after the remaining points in the 2016 WTCC series.
“So far Nika International is the only Swedish team that has three wins within the WTCC series. All of them with the Chevrolet/GM brand and our first victory was in Marrakesh!”
