Andrew Jordan admits his focus for the second meeting of the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season at Donington Park this weekend [16th-17th April] is to replicate the consistent points-scoring finishes he achieved at the series opener at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago.
Jordan, who has made the switch to Dave Bartrum’s Motorbase Performance outfit following a challenging season with MG Triple Eight Racing, looked a reinvigorated man as he claimed a brace of fourth place finishes in the Ford Focus ST, and despite a problem in the first race still took the chequered flag within the points.
The 2013 champion now heads to his local circuit, with the aim of carrying that form forward into the coming races.
“Going into the second round of the season, I feel we are in a good position as even though we had a small issue in the first race at Brands Hatch and didn’t quite have the outright pace, we came away from the weekend with some good points on the board,” explained the Pirtek-backed driver.
“That has to be the main aim again at Donington, and obviously my target is to try and take my first victory for Motorbase. If it’s our time to win, then that is certainly what I’ll be trying to do.
“However, at this stage of the year it’s also important to make sure we are picking up points for the championship, as consistency will be a key at the end of the year.
Jordan also feels that on both a personal and engineering front, he and Pirtek Racing head into this weekend in a strong position to be competitive as they look to take the challenge to current standings leaders, Halfords Yuasa Racing.
“I absolutely love Donington Park,” he commented. “It’s a proper ‘old school’ circuit and one that has really improved in recent years with all of the work that the owners have put in.
“I think the Focus will be well suited to Donington and although the grid is strong, I feel confident we can come away from the weekend with three good results to our name.”
Jordan took a best result of 2nd place at the Leicestershire venue in 2015 behind the wheel of the MG6 GT, but will be eager to go one better and claim his first race win in over a year as the championship reconvenes. Live commentary of the weekend will be available via TouringCars.net
