Alex Martin admits it may be a difficult task for Dextra Racing to repair his Ford Focus ST in time for the second round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after an incident in the series opener saw him hit the barriers.
Martin took to the grass to avoid Hunter Abbott’s Chevrolet Cruze and spun three hundred and sixty degrees, planting the front end of his Ford into the armco barriers on the outside of Surtees, which resulted in damage to the front end.
Speaking exclusively to TouringCars.net, Martin believes that, whilst Team Parker will do their utmost to get the car turned around in their short window of opportunity, they may have to focus on getting everything repaired for the final round just after 5pm instead.
“They [Team Parker]’ll go for race two, but they’re quite close together today, so realistically [maybe not]. Definitely race three, maybe race two.” he commented.
He was also in philosophical mood about the incident, which started his second campaign in the BTCC on a sour note.
“It’s bad luck – someone else will get one of them later in the year. I took the lesser of two evils I think – Hunter Abbott might owe me a pint for not having a Ford in the side of him. It was go on the grass or go into the side of him, so that’s what I did. I think I made the right decision, I’m just obviously sad.” he commented.
The second race gets underway at 14:12.
