The Volvo V60 Polestar has been revealed as the new official Safety Car for the World Touring Car Championship, with the car to make its début in France coinciding with the return of Volvo to the WTCC.
The V60 Polestar has been specially modified with mandatory safety equipment and will lead the WTCC field during times when there have been on-track incidents.
“It was an easy decision to start a cooperation with the WTCC on the Official Safety Car,” explained Polestar’s Head of Motorsport Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin. “This allows us to close the circle from track to road by showcasing customers the take-home alternative of our racing car technology in the form of the Volvo V60 Polestar Safety Car, at the same time being part of the vital and extensive safety work of the championship.”
Like its racing counterparts, the V60 Polestar has been equipped with a roll cage, rescue and communication equipment in order to meet the technical and safety requirements set out by the FIA and Eurosport Events.
François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, is pleased to welcome Polestar as the new official safety partner of the championship.
“Last October we welcomed Polestar’s long-term commitment to the WTCC as a manufacturer,” said Ribeiro. “Now we welcome Polestar as the new Official Safety Car partner of the WTCC, an exclusive opportunity which will allow them to promote their extremely safe and high-performing V60 Polestar flagship model around the world.”
The Volvo V60 Polestar has been awarded the highest five-star Euro NCAP rating, making it the ideal vehicle to lead the way in the WTCC.
