Following on from the recent development at Team HARD Racing, which saw Tony Gilham’s outift secure a second TOCA BTCC Licence for 2016, Jake Hill will now pilot the second Toyota Avensis for the team in this year’s British Touring Car Championship.
The Kent-based driver will work alongside VW Scirocco R-Cup race winner and former Mini Challenge champion, Chris Smiley, and is confirmed for a full season.
Hill made his début in the championship with Motorbase back in 2013, replacing an absent Liam Griffin in the Ford Focus, which the 22-year-old drove to a Jack Sears Trophy win at Croft.
That same season, he replaced Will Bratt at the Brands Hatch finale for Rob Austin Racing in the Audi A4, taking his best finish to date in race two, finishing 11th.
Last season, he stood in for Nicolas Hamilton in the AmD Essex Audi S3 saloon, ahead of trying to secure a full season in the series.
“There’s been a lot of hard work over the winter period to secure a package for this year’s championship, and with the help of Mike Joseph from RCIB Insurance, we’ve managed to get together with a package that we can hopefully hit the ground running with.”
Having made his way to the BTCC via the Ginetta Junior and GT4 Supercup championships, which are part of the support bill, Hill is looking to do his very best.
“Hopefully, we can just score as many points as possible, get a good solid year under our belts with the Toyota Avensis and carry that onto 2017 and beyond.”
