Following on from the recent announcement that Team RMG’s Marco Wittmann will race in the colours of BMW Motorsport Premium Partner, Red Bull, for the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, two of the Munich brand’s drivers will also sport a different look.
Team Schnitzer’s António Félix da Costa will now take over the BMW Lifestyle livery, which was first used back in 2014, when Joey Hand took part in his final season in the DTM. The livery also adorned the M4 DTM of last year’s best rookie, Tom Blomqvist.
Blomqvist, who remains at Team RBM for this season alongside Belgium’s Maxime Martin, will now be in the Ice Watch colours, which 2014 champion Wittmann formerly used from when he made his debut in 2013.
““I think the Ice-Watch design really suits me,” said the 22-year-old, who took his first win at race two in Oschersleben.
“With their fresh watch designs, the brand addresses young people like me. I obviously hope to be able to follow on from the great success enjoyed by my predecessor Marco Wittmann. After all, this car design brought him a lot of luck.”
One further change for one of the most experienced drivers on the grid is that da Costa’s team mate, Martin Tomczyk, will not be racing with #77 this season.
He will still use the same livery that he has used since 2012, but will run with #100 on his car, which happens to coincide with BMW Group celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
“There are only two numbers I would swap my 77 for: the number 1 belonging to the DTM champion and the number 100 to mark BMW’s centenary,” said the 2011 champion.
“It is a great honour for me to celebrate the 100th anniversary of BMW with the number 100 on my car. The BMW M Performance Parts M4 DTM in the traditional BMW Motorsport colours is perfectly suited to this homage. I will do my best to achieve as many good results as possible with this number.”
