Target Competition has confirmed that it will run seven Opel Astra TCR cars in the 2016 season, with three reserved for the TCR International Series and a further four for the TCR Germany series.
The Italian outfit, which is based in the German-speaking region of South Tyrol, ran Italo-Swiss racer Stefano Comini to the inaugural TCR International Series title in 2015 at the wheel of a SEAT León racer.
Now the team has forged a partnership with Opel to campaign the new cars in multiple championships in 2016, as they seek to defend their titles.
“The fact that the champions of last season has decided to change to our Astra TCR pleases us very much,” said Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott. “We can only benefit from their TCR experience.
“With Target Competition we have found a very strong partner and customer for the initial TCR entry.”
The team, which is run by brothers Andreas and Markus Gummerer, have not yet confirmed any drivers for the forthcoming season.
“We are very proud to wear the colours of Opel in the TCR Series’,” said Andreas, whilst Markus added “We are convinced of the potential of the Astra TCR and trust in the long experience of Opel in touring car racing. Mutual trust is for us the basis of good cooperation, and this was available from the first moment.”
