The second race of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) meeting in Thailand will be run as a sunset race, with the race taking place under the Chang International Circuit floodlights.
The penultimate meeting of the season will thus come an hour short of being the WTCC’s first-ever night race, which will take place in Qatar three weeks later.
The first race in Thailand will take place at 16:25 local time (09:25 GMT; 10:25 CET), with race two following just under an hour later at 17:30 local time (10:30 GMT; 11:30 CET) – just ten minutes before sunset.
The meeting could also see Citroën’s José María López claim his second consecutive drivers’ title, so long as the Argentine does not lose more than 20 points to team-mate Yvan Muller.
However if López manages to win race one– something he has achieved an impressive seven out of ten times so far this season – then he will be crowned champion, regardless of the result achieved by Muller.
Zengő Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz could also be crowned the WTCC Yokohama Trophy champion in Buriram, with the Hungarian currently holding a 25-point advantage over Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani.
