Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green was back on the podium once again, having finished second to Team Phoenix’s Timo Scheider in the first race of the final Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race weekend of 2015.
The Briton, who initially took three wins in the first four races of the season, is now in prime position to take the runner-up spot in the drivers’ standings tomorrow (Sunday 18th October).
It looks to be a close fight with fellow Audi stablemates Mattias Ekström and Edoardo Mortara, following a difficult time for both drivers, who lost out to new champion Pascal Wehrlein. All three drivers are separated by four points going into the last race of the year.
“I’m happy with today and it’s good to get a 1-2, That’s what we’ve done at Audi, as well as having a good performance today,” explained Green at the post-race press conference.
“To sort of battle my way from fifth was nice, and to have a proper race. There was a bit too much contact, to be honest, as I was quite surprised when Maxime hit me at the apex of the hairpin, as I gave him plenty of room.
Green passed pole sitter Maxime Martin at the hairpin, in what was a fair move. However, he felt that his race could have been ended early, as Martin made contact: “The impact was fairly hard. It seemed that the angle that Maxime hit me at, did not damage the car, and the Audi is pretty strong, especially with the contacts this year.”
“I was in front, but he was hanging on with DRS, which is worth sixth tenths of a lap around here, so to pull away from someone with that advantage is really hard.”
