Mücke Motorsport’s Daniel Juncadella will now start his weekend at the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) season finale, replacing test and reserve driver Esteban Ocon, having recovered from a bout of food poisoning.
Juncadella, who is now set to complete his third season with Mercedes-AMG DTM, currently has 26 points to his credit, with seven top ten finishes this year.
Ocon stepped in for the Spaniard during free practice one, gaining some valuable experience around the 4.574-km track. The 19-year-old was just 1.559 seconds off the pace, which was set by Britain’s Jamie Green in yesterday’s session.
“I am relieved to see that Daniel Juncadella has pulled through this episode of food poisoning and is now fit enough to line up for the last race weekend of the season at Hockenheim,” stated Head of Mercedes-AMG DTM, Ulrich Fritz, who praised the efforts of the medical staff that helped Juncadella to resume driving duties.
“I would also like to thank our test and reserve driver Esteban Ocon who was thrown in at the deep end in the first free practice session without any time for preparation and who has done such a great job of standing in for Daniel.”
The final DTM free practice session of the year starts at 0900 CEST (0800 BST), lasting for 50 minutes.
