Warren Scott has hinted that Alain Menu may return to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at the Brands Hatch season finale, replacing the injured team boss.
Scott was ruled out of the remainder of the Silverstone weekend, and subsequently the rest of the season, following a shunt in first practice. The Team BMR boss fractured two vertebrae in the frontal accident, and was walking around the paddock on Sunday in visible pain.
When questioned by TouringCars.Net about a possible substitute driver for the final round, Scott immediately suggested the Swiss racer could make a return to the series once again.
“It’s not 100% [certain], but if we are going to run four cars I should think it will be Alain,” said Scott. “I don’t know if he wants to do it; I haven’t spoken to him yet because he’s not here this weekend. We’ll get back to the factory tomorrow and work out what we’re going to do.”
Menu raced for the team for the entire 2014 season, scoring a pair of podiums before being replaced for the 2015 season. He has since acted as a driver support coach for the team, and has been seen in the paddock on several occasions during the course of the year.
Scott also suggested that Menu would like to return to touring car racing with the outfit in 2016, but that any deal would require additional backing.
“We’ve been looking at it [Menu driving in 2016], but it all comes down to finances,” added Scott. “I think he’d like to join us again for next year, but it all comes down to budgets and what we can and can’t do.”
