It was another milestone for Timo Glock, who took his second Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) career win at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben with Team MTEK, who he has remained with since his début in the series back in 2013.
With Bruno Spengler finishing in second, it provided Ernst Knoors’ outfit with their first 1-2 finish, which gave the Dutchman’s team reason to be happy with their result.
“This victory feels fantastic. It was hugely enjoyable to drive the car today. However, I had to push in the race,” said the 33-year-old, who now moves up to 13th in the drivers’ standings on 50 points.
“I fought like a lion all race and was rewarded with my second DTM win. I am pleased for my team that our work has finally paid off and we even managed a one-two. The guys deserved that.”
Spengler, who has had a resurgance of form since leaving Team Schnitzer at the tail end of last season, now is in the hunt for the title, along with Mattias Ekström, Edoardo Mortara, Jamie Green and current points leader Pascal Wehrlein.
The Franco-Canadian, who now is equal on points withGreen, said that it was a rarity to be able to “celebrate a a one-two every day.”
This is a great result for my team,” explained the 32-year-old. ” The whole performance from BMW was fantastic today.
“Everything went perfectly for us. I scored a lot of points and am now back in the title race in the Drivers’ Championship. We must still keep our feet on the ground but we have every reason to celebrate today.”
