Gordon Shedden has been handed a four-place grid penalty ahead of tomorrow’s opening British Touring Car Championship race at Rockingham.
Shedden, who is second in the drivers’ championship standings, was handed a post-session demotion following a “pitlane procedural infringement during qualifying”.
Shedden jumped ahead of two Team BMR cars in the pit-exit queue when the session restarted following a red-flag period, and was penalised by the clerk of the course.
The Honda driver had qualified in third after a late improvement meaning his penalty drops him back to seventh – two spots behind championship leader Jason Plato.
His demotion also means Jack Goff and Tom Ingram’s career-best qualifying efforts become third and fourth respectively on tomorrow’s Race One grid.
