Mücke Motorsport’s Daniel Juncadella had a tough fight on his hands during the 16th Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) race of the season, which took place at the Nürburgring.
The Spaniard, who now has 26 points to his credit, was happy with his start after the lights went out, but after that, it was somewhat detrimental towards his eventual finishing position in tenth place.
“I was overtaking Timo Glock on the ninth corner, when he turned into me, destroying the right hand side of my car,” explained the 24-year-old.
“Despite that, I was able to overtake Max and Augusto, because they were busy fighting with each other. So that put me into P6 ahead of the pit stop.”
One of the highlights of the race was the battle between Juncadella, points leader Pascal Wehrlein, Maximillian Götz and Augusto Farfus, which saw him show his skills in close-quarter racing.
He also felt that due to the damage sustained in the early contact with Glock, it caused a handling issue with his Mercedes, but kept Mattias Ekström at bay for the final point.
“While I was closing the gap on Blomqvist, I unfortunately lost grip because of the damage to my car. Towards the end, I was also having a bit of a problem with my brakes.
“I gave it everything I’d got and tried to stay inside the points. It was a tough fight with all the other guys, but I did succeed in scoring one championship point.”
Juncadella has scored in seven races so far, with his best finish of fifth secured at race one at Moscow Raceway, which he will be looking to increase at Hockenheim in three weeks.
